How Chicken Nanban Achieved Popularity

Chicken Nanban is a variation of friend chicken, and it is one of our customer's favorite Teishoku meals.
Crispy and succulent friend chicken with its sweet and tangy sauce matches the best with our deliciously cooked "Kinme-mai" rice.

Chicken Nanban originated in Miyazaki prefecture in Japan. It was first served as a staff meal at a restaurant called "London". Later on a couple of the former employees opened their own restaurants and started serving the dish on their menus. This juicy Chicken Nanban became popular regionally. When the Bento chain, "Hotto Motto", adopted it on their menu it came to be more than a regional dish. That's how it achieved the current status in Japanese comfort food.

Drop by for a bite!

*Hotto Motto is our sisiter brand specializing in boxed bento meals in Japan.

Take shelter from the rain and cozy up with our Sukiyaki.
Ever wonder why Sukiyaki is called SUKIYAKI?
The word "Sukiyaki" is a portmanteau word, a combined word of suki(like) and yaki(broil).
But why is this traditional hot pot dish called Sukiyaki?

Because:
A) We eat with people we like.
B) We put anything we like in it
C) The dish used to be cooked with a plow (a plow is "suki" in Japanese)

Hint hint: Sukiyaki was originally eaten by farmers.

The answer is ....C!!
Farmers used to cook the dish using their plows during farm work.

*This is just one of many stories behind sukiyaki. Don't get mad if it's different from what you hear from other sources:)
